Creeping Carnival
Two brushes fall in love, a creature with three
legs scuttles across a tightrope, another tries to come to grips with a giant flower: in the miniature world of Creeping Carnival, nothing is quite what it seems.
A different angle on the everyday, shrunk to the size of a hand, Creeping Carnival is a both humorous and fascinating performance. It is puppetry for both young and old, and manages to amaze through the inventive use of objects that we normally take for granted.
This surreal world is brought to life by Anita Bertolami, a professional performer educated in Denmark and Switzerland between 1999 and 2003. Mixing music and comedy together, adding a hint of the fantastic, she produces something not only unique but extremely entertaining!
Technical info:
Director: Shiva Grings
20 minute show: Several short, loosely connected numbers. Suitable for indoor and outdoor venues.
Language: pantomime
Creeping Carnival has its own stage (approx. 1x1 metre) and uses amplified music. It consists of several short scenes, each circa 2 – 5 minutes long. These scenes are loosely connected in theme and detail, but are essentially stand-alone numbers.
The performance works particularly well as an outdoor performance, but is also suitable for a stage. For a stage performance, it is essential that the audience is positioned relatively close to the show, so that they can see all of the small details.
Awards:
Festival Artisti di Strada in Ascona (2008): 2nd Prize
Culture Development Award, Thun (2009)
Comment:
The artist plays a miniature chest of wonders that seems to spring directly out of Gulliver's Travels. Perfectly interweaved with music, she performs a show that captures both young and old with it's magic. Simon Häselbarth, March 2007
